Have you ever felt like you’re going through the motions, but not truly living? That nagging question of “what’s my purpose?” can be a constant source of frustration. Well, I’m here to tell you that living authentically and connecting with your story is the key to unlocking your purpose.

For years, I, like many women leaders, assumed authenticity wasn’t valued in the business world. But guess what? It’s the magic ingredient! Faking it is exhausting and relationships become transactional instead of personal.

Here’s how I discovered the power of authenticity in my own leadership journey:

  • Mapping My Life Story: This might sound strange, but by reflecting on the experiences that truly resonated with me, I began to understand the core values that drive me. It’s a journey of self-discovery, and it all starts with your story.

  • Embracing Authenticity: The more I shared my authentic self, the more connected I felt with my work and the people around me. This authenticity attracts genuine connections and fosters a sense of community.

  • Crafting My Mission Statement: Think of your mission statement as your personal North Star. It’s a powerful tool that helps you focus your energy and guides you towards a fulfilling life.

Here are some tips for crafting your own mission statement:

  • Focus on Meaning, Not Money: Your purpose shouldn’t be about financial gain. What truly sparks your passion? What impact do you want to make on the world?
  • Be True to Yourself: Don’t feel pressured to create a mission statement that sounds impressive. It should reflect your unique talents and what truly energizes you.
  • Keep it Clear and Concise: Your mission statement should be easy to understand and remember.
  • Make it Action-Oriented: Use strong verbs that capture the essence of what drives you.

Remember:

  • There’s no deadline! Your mission statement can evolve as you do.
  • There’s no “right” answer. Your purpose is unique to you.

By embracing your authenticity and connecting with your story, you can unlock your purpose and live a truly fulfilling life. So, grab a pen and paper, and start mapping your journey. You might be surprised by what you discover!

In my book, Reclaiming The Fire in Your Belly, I address how you can reframe and start to create different results in your life. It will help you name your own limiting mindsets and offer tools to reconnect with power and possibility. By naming what you’ve been feeling in your gut and your heart that you weren’t previously able to name, you can address it and, in the process, become empowered.
